Historically high house prices and rents, high interest rates, stagnant real wages, and mounting student loan, auto loan and credit card debt are decimating American consumers.
Climate risk is now repricing entire regions, driving catastrophic losses, rising utility costs and a homeowner insurance crisis that will only worsen moving forward. The labor market offers little relief: job creation is weak, layoffs are climbing, and the effect of AI and automation on employment remains an unknown but looming threat. Younger Americans no longer believe homeownership is achievable, and a growing number of existing homeowners can no longer afford to maintain the homes they have. The status quo is unsustainable.
